A Library For The Gipper

Here's another place we'd never been in California: the Ronald Regan Presidential Library. It's a beautiful Spanish hacienda-style building on top of a hill with a view. Pretty nice.

There's a larger than life statue to greet you at the door.

 And the Presidential Seal as you walk in the entry.

 One of the reasons Bruce really wanted to go was to get a close look at the former Air Force One on display.

I couldn't take pictures inside- security reasons, ya know.

 There was a display about the Berlin Wall. I took this picture for my kids, because we talk about Communism a lot at my house for some reason. This one's for you, guys!

 Chairman Mao- also for my kids.

 A more sober moment: a piece of the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

 Then we turned a corner, and there was horse with no legs!!

 Of course, Bruce hopped on and went for a ride with Ronnie. (Shannon, you would not believe Ronald Regan's riding form- I swear he leans 3 feet to the right.)

 Outside, there was an actual piece of the Berlin Wall.

 Through the museum, there were Pres. Reagan's quotes printed on the wall. He was such a straight talking man who didn't put up with silly partisanship. Both Republicans and Democrats liked and admired him. He was a great leader. I wished several times that he could be our president again.

Camarillo Ranch House

Back in October, Bruce had to take a business trip to SoCal. When he asked if I wanted to tag along, I jumped at the chance! It being UEA weekend, we did not go into the Happiest Place on Earth, not wanting to be overrun by our fellow Utahans. So when Bruce's business was done, we went to some new places. As in, places in Southern California where we'd never been. There are such places. One of them is the Camarrillo Ranch House.

We are history buffs at our house, so we like places like these. If they happen to be photogenic, so much the better!

 The house was built in 1892 and was originally part of a 10,000 acre Mexican land grant. They grew lima beans here, of all things. No one likes lima beans.

Now the house is run by a private foundation. They were decorating for a wedding on the morning we were there.

The gardens were my favorite part. There wasn't much blooming, but it was a pretty place.

Ah! A hapless victim is spotted! We prepare ourselves and make a powerful leap!

Well, I let that one get away. On purpose. 

But we will continue to hunt until there are no survivors!

Gorkin Harvest 2012

Come back in time with me, to about a month ago, when we harvested this year's gorkins. B & L weren't able to be here, which was sad, (you have no idea how excited L gets at gorkin harvest time!), but we did have one new addition to the festivities:

There was gorkin picking:

 And gorkin hucking- with unintended consequences.

The gorkins were quite varied this year! There were bumpy orange gorkins:

Lots of yellow gorkins:

 And gorkins that didn't fall into any category.

There's nothing like a good gorkin harvest to get you in the mood for Fall.
