Scout Beach

The views from Scout Beach were amazing-
Like I said:
I got stuck like I do at any beach I go to, trying to catch a wave in my own way.
After a rest and a snack we climbed back in the kayaks to make the trip back to the harbor.
This is when the wildlife decide to show themselves.  The only one I got a picture of was this bald eagle, which was appropriate, considering we were in Eagle Bay.
We also saw some jellyfish and a huge sea lion kept popping up to see what we were up to. This time we saw this amazing view on our left:
Back at the harbor we had another bald eagle come in for a closer look.
It was a great adventure, kayaking in Alaska!

Eagle Bay

To continue our Alaskan kayaking adventure, we finally ventured out on to the waters of Eagle Bay.
We were lucky that it was such a calm and warm day. Heading out to our destination, Scout Beach, we saw this to the right:
 This to the left:
 And this straight ahead.
Paddling for all we were worth, after about 30 minutes, we made it to our destination, Scout Beach!
Time for a rest and a snack!

Land Kayaking

For our kayaking adventure we unloaded the trailers at a spot called Aamalga Harbor. Beautiful place.
 We donned our "splash skirts."
Sam and Annie helped fit the pedals inside the kayaks to the right length. Thus, "Land Kayaking."
After the fitting, the kayaks were hauled to the launching point.
The dock was covered with the most interesting barnacles and shell creatures.
Next: we actually make it into the water. :)

Gearing Up

Our first Alaska shore excursion was a kayak trip. We met our guides, Sam and Annie, (Salmon Annie), and loaded ourselves into a van that took us to their shop, a ways up the road from the port at Juneau.
At the shop we all put on fashionable rubber boots.
 We signed our lives away,
And loaded up the kayaks.

We were all pretty excited to get kayaking.
Bruce did his requisite pose, and we were off on our adventure!

The Harbor In Juneau

The first day of our cruise was spent at sea. In a fog bank. Sometimes we could glimpse land a long way off, but most of the time it was just fog and water. Our ship sounded it's fog horn, and that was pretty cool. On Monday morning, we pulled into the harbor in Juneau. Land!
We were escorted in by the Coast Guard and their machine gun.
Thick pine trees covered the hills and mountains around Juneau.
We disembarked and were on to our first adventure- kayaking! Bruce was eying this fishing boat in the harbor.
It was nice to be back on land!
