Swimming Under The Stars

School starts soon, so we wanted to have a special night swim party for the younger Stratford set. We started right before sundown and swam and ate cookies until the stars came out.
Grandma is still on crutches, but her ankle is getting better, bit by bit.
I hope Summer sticks around for a long while yet!

Merlin

Who else out there has noticed that BBC has some great programming? My latest BBC discovery is the Merlin series. You remember Merlin- the sorcerer/helper of King Arthur fame. This comes off looking like a Harry Potter/ Lord of the Rings clone, but it's good!
This is a totally family friendly, completely entertaining show. The first 3 seasons are on Netflix and the 4th season is floating out there on the Interwebs. Catch this in your spare time! (He he!)

Finally, City Creek

One more post from last week's wedding adventure day. After the wedding luncheon, the boys decided to head on home. Shannon and I wanted to stick around for the reception, which meant that we had a bit more time to fill.

We went shopping at the City Creek Center. :)
This place is nice. Nice fountains, nice stores. A creek runs right through the center of the mall.
We found some new shoes and accessories. And we went to the most exciting store:
We browsed in Tiffany's just for fun. I actually found a few reasonably priced things in there that I wouldn't mind having...
Our last stop was Nordstom's where I picked up a few Jo Malone perfume samples. Mmmm. It was lots of fun to shop here!

To The Mine!

You remember that we went to a fun family wedding last week, right? With a few hours to kill before the luncheon, we went on an adventure. Bruce found out about a road that would take us to an overlook of Bingham Copper Mine. So off we went.

The road is goes up Butterfield Canyon. It was a surprise, how quickly we left the city behind and were up in the pine and aspen trees. What a pretty place! The 7 mile road was paved up to the last mile or so, but with the 4Runner, we had no problems.
In about 10 minutes, we had made it to the overlook. Even with the smoky, smoggy air filling the valley, the mine was pretty impressive-
Looking west, we could see the Tooele Valley.
Brian looked for fossils and Peter tried to look like a model, but it looks more like he has a stomach ache.
I want to come back to Butterfield Canyon when the leaves start to turn. I'll bet it's beautiful then!

There Was Never Just One Hot Guy

I think that sometimes a good action movie is just what's needed. Bruce and I saw The Bourne Legacy the other night, and it was pretty awesome!
It helped that Hot Guy was the star of the film. (See explanation HERE.) The story makes more sense if you've seen the other Bourne films, but it's not essential. There's nothing nasty, but there's plenty of neck snapping and creative shooting going on. Give this one a try, if only to see Hot Guy drive a motorcycle.

A Wedding Day

We went to a wedding yesterday. My beautiful niece married a really nice guy.
It was a family sort of day.

When you and your new husband are both members of the BYU ballroom dance team, you can pull off impressive moves for the crowd like this:
My kids were there in full force, avoiding my camera or hamming it up, as usual.
But- it's not just my kids who pull that trick.
This nephew gets extra points for a.) cooperating for a picture, and b.) having that amazing hair that helps him look just a bit like Josh Groban!
Bruce was looking pretty sharp:
This is why my sisters and I like to get together:
The bride's little sister is just too cute.
Days like these are always fun- congratulations to my little bro and his family!
