Italian Meat and Potatoes- Yum!

This recipe might seem a little odd, but it's really good comfort food!

Italian Meat and Potatoes- 10 to 12 servings
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. sausage
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. salt
1 can (10 3/4 oz.) cheddar cheese soup, undiluted
1 1/4 c. milk
1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. sugar
6 med. potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese

In a large skillet, cook the beef, sausage, onion, pepper and salt over med heat till no longer pink. Drain. Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the soup, milk, tomato sauce, garlic powder, oregano and sugar till smooth. Spoon half of the meat mixture into a greased 9x13 pan. Layer with half of the potatoes. Repeat layers. Top with soup mixture. Cover and bake at 350 for 1 1/4 hours or until potatoes are tender. Uncover, sprinkle with cheese. Bake 15 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.
