Sutter's Fort

After towing the Jeep to Brian's front door, we stayed a few days to play. Brian and Lindsey were at work on Friday, so Bruce and I had some fun. We started at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park. It was the first settlement in Sacramento.
They have nice folk there who do demonstrations and tell you about the park's history. And throw bean bags into wooden buckets.
One of the guides held us captive as he stamped and pinched leather key fobs for us. A former history teacher, he knew a lot.
There were a lot of neat historic touches to take pictures of:
Not a lot was blooming- I think the drought had a lot to do with that- but there a few interesting plants.
A neat place to visit!

A California Jeep

My Jeep has changed it's address.

It's not even my Jeep any more. It's gone to California to live with Brian. We towed it there last weekend. It took 11 1/2 hours to get there.
I'm sure that, just like cows are happier in California, my Jeep will be happier there too.

Our Family At Rose Ranch

Here are our family pictures from the most recent Rose Ranch show. I say "family" because Snoopy is now officially mine!
I like this picture because Snoopy is once again looking at me with one ear and listening to Shannon with his other ear. Cute!

A Grinner And A Model

A glimpse of the Saltaire Farm riders at last week's Rose Ranch horse show. I decided to really up my shutter speed, (to 650), and I like the results. I should have done that a long time ago.
Rarely do I get a rider that looks right at the camera and grins over the jump:
Or someone who shows off their model moves so dramatically:
I was really into hand and rein details. I'm going to have a quiz on Instagram and give a bag of carrots to whoever guesses these riders correctly. :)
It was a fun, hot and dusty show!

The Sanctuary

In October we will have lived in our house for 20 years. I can't even wrap my brain around that! I do love my house. One of things I love most about my house is the porch. But it has been under-utilized. For 20 years.

The east side of the porch has always looked like this:
Nothing going on there. Walk right to end and there is a little alcove where I kept large rocks. Large rocks? Yes, to weigh down decorations by my front door. Such a waste of space. Until now.
 Welcome to: The Sanctuary.
A lounge chair, some pillows, a rug, flowers and a cozy blanket. That's all I needed to transform an unused corner into The Sanctuary.
If you can't find me, you know where I'll be. In The Sanctuary.

You Could Make A Wish...

This is my latest motto:
I'm really into making things happen lately. Maybe it's because I'm 50 now and I feel time passing. I guess I figure that if it's going to happen I'd better get on with it!

Some people think I'm having a mid-life crisis. I think changing your life and reaching goals might be called mid-life accomplishments!

Snoopy And His Pirate

At the latest Polo Field show, Shannon found herself in the harrowing position of convincing Snoopy that he really did need to step up his game and not be so lazy.
Without her coat and wearing her (our) white shirt, I think she looks like a pirate!
Snoopy decided to cooperate, without the added whip and spur weapons.
We spent a lot of time trying to stay hydrated under the summer sun.
Shannon had her shadbelly time too- placing 5th in her class, which included the younger riders and their very pricey horses. We won the same ribbon in our Classics!
Snoopy has caught sight of me here- he's looking at me with one ear and listening to Shannon with the other.
Another successful show!
