And The Organ Was Played

You know that time you have to fill between the wedding and the wedding luncheon? Last week, we filled our across the street from the temple, at the Brigham Tabernacle. It's a great historic building.
Walking in, we were asked by the missionary couple if anyone wanted to play the organ. I thought to myself, "When will I ever have this opportunity again?" So, I played the organ.

That is, I played it after it took a minute or two to find the power switch to turn it on. :)
I played Abide With Me- the one where the darkness deepens.
Peter joined us there and he played the piano. But only holy songs. Not ones off the radio that he likes to play at home.
This hand carved wood design was the main design motif in the tabernacle. It was even repeated in the carpets.
 The podium was very ornate.
Every prophet since Brigham Young has spoken in this tabernacle, so it was a neat experience to spend some time here.

A Wedding In Brigham, Part 2

There was a beautiful backyard reception after the wedding last week in Brigham. The bride had to stoop to give little Shannon a hug:
They made homemade root beer in old milk cans for root beer floats to go along with pretty cookies.
My trusty chalkboard sign was put to good use:
Another chalkboard listed the evening's events. How cute is this?
 There was a beautiful cake:
And some railings that my sister in law had been saving that came from an old courthouse:
We all had a good time, and I especially like this picture of my MIL, in her reception finery:

A Wedding In Brigham, Part 1

We went to my niece's wedding at the Brigham City temple last week. Everyone seemed happy with the whole event, but no one was as delighted at the bride- she was just so cute!
She made her own wedding dress and wore her grandmother's veil.
I went looking for details that make the Brigham City temple unique with it's peach blossom theme.
Here are some of the usual cast of Stratford characters:
Weddings are always nice, aren't they?

Girl's Camp Lantern

I'm headed up to girl's camp in a few days. I was assigned the task of being in charge of a craft to make during what little down time we'll have. I found these on Pinterest, and knew right away that this was the craft for us!
It follows my crafting formula: cute and easy! All you do is put stickers on a jar where you don't want the "frosted glass" spray paint to go. Tie on a simple wire handle and a cute little saying, add a battery-operated tea light from the dollar store and you're done!
I think the girls will really like them and will look cute carrying them around at night- like little fireflies!

Shadbelly Photo-Op

Shannon and Snoopy had a good show at the polo field. They won their division.
This just makes my heart happy:
They rode in a special class called a Classic, and Shannon got to wear her special Shadbelly coat. It has tails that flap in the wind when they jump. It also makes for a fun photo-op:

What Was I Thinking?

Horse show #3 had it's ups and downs. It was held on the grass at the polo fields at the Equestrian Center in South Jordan. (Side Note: Why are there a polo field in Utah at all? It's not like polo is a big sport here. I think it's mostly used for lacrosse.)
The ups: The weather was good. It didn't rain. The grass was nice and dry, so I wasn't afraid that Snoopy and I would go slipping across the grass. With one notable exception*, I actually thought while I jumped. On the day that Snoopy wanted to run really fast, I didn't panic. I feel like we actually did ok. Shannon and I had what we call a "Showcation"- horse showing with some fun thrown in. We stayed in Salt Lake, went to a movie and out to dinner.

The downs: Snoopy was a bit hyper. I made rookie mistakes that kept me from placing higher in my classes, most notably*, I jumped the wrong jump, and I jumped it going the wrong direction. Major mistake. What was I thinking? Oh well, these things happen- chalk it up to my inexperience. Betcha I don't do that again.
Snoopy is such a steady little guy. We are learning how to handle him at the shows so that he's at his best. Now I just need to get my head in the game.
